Who We Are
Rebuilding Pastoralist Livelihoods Organization (REPAL) is a community-driven, nonprofit organization working to empower pastoralist, agro-pastoralist, and fisherfolk communities across Northern Kenya.
Founded in 2019 and formally registered as an NGO in 2023, REPAL was born out of the need to address the growing challenges faced by pastoralist communities — including climate change, land degradation, food insecurity, and limited access to basic services.
We bring together local communities, government institutions, and development partners to co-create solutions that restore livelihoods, conserve the environment, and strengthen community resilience.

Our Approach
At REPAL, development is not done for communities — it’s done with them.
We use a bottom-up, participatory approach that ensures local voices drive decision-making and action.

This approach ensures that our interventions are not only effective but also locally owned and sustainable long after projects end.
Governance & Leadership
REPAL’s governance structure ensures accountability, transparency, and strong leadership.
A five-member Board of Directors provides strategic oversight and policy direction.
The Executive Management Team, led by the Chief Executive Officer, oversees day-to-day implementation and coordination.
All programs are supported by dedicated staff and community volunteers.
Governance principles include:
Quarterly board meetings and an Annual General Meeting (AGM).
Annual independent financial audits and transparent reporting.
Gender-balanced leadership and merit-based recruitment.
Gender and Inclusion
We believe that sustainable development cannot exist without equality.
That’s why REPAL actively promotes gender equity, youth empowerment, and disability inclusion across all our programs.
Women are empowered to lead in community decision-making and resource management.
Youth are trained and mentored to become agents of peace and innovation.
Persons with disabilities and marginalized groups are included in all program designs to ensure no one is left behind.

With plans to expand to Isiolo, Samburu, Meru, and Laikipia Counties as part of our 2024–2030 strategic vision.
